The name comes from a store called Takenoko, which was located in Shibuya, because the suffix-zoku in japan means tribe or group. This traditional Japanese clothing emporium and was based in kimonos such as the Heian period (794-1185dC). Yet the clothing store that was very expensive, so the poorest districts takenokozokus were made themselves their own costumes.





The name provides by a shop called Takenoko, which was situated in Shibuya, because the -zoku sufix in japanese means tribe or group. These shop sold japanese traditional clothes and was based in Heian's epoque (784-1185 dC) kimonos. At least, the clothes in this shop were so expensive, so the  poor takenozokus musn't bought them and the only way to be takenozoku were customizate their handmade clothes.
