I agree with you on almost everything, unless I go a little further. The problem is not unique to the school, is something that concerns the entire society, children only play what they see around them, messages that arrive from the nearest adult, the TV, video games .....
is true that sex education in schools leaves much to be desired, it is oriented mainly to physical issues, and to prevent any unwanted pregnancies. Leave aside the question of the affective, that is from my point of view the most important, not only for LGBT people, not also for themselves heterosexual.
We are in a society heavily influenced by religious prejudice , by the fear of "that say" and for centuries macho education not only attacks the women, but especially with our group.
But, and I am sorry to say, some of the blame is also ours, for though it is fully justifiable in certain countries and environments, hide our orientation is a matter of life and death, yet we have become so used to hide that we do even in places where there is no imminent danger that looks bad, and that's something we can assume, unless we fall into the error I mentioned before the fear of "what people say."
The hope in this country, however much I dislike admit, is that the law has been ahead of society, and we now have some protection that makes it politically incorrect to mess with our group, so it is now when we must "come out" and get used to our friends and neighbors to the important thing in a person are their values, not their sexual orientation.
And as I said before that there are a few blogs of centers that want to support GLBT students, is a breakthrough, given that ten years ago, nobody would have dared, nor would have consented, to undertake such a task openly.
The struggle to achieve our full rights as I said is much broader than the scope of the school and students. A couple of years, brought the center to a pair of fibula ALLEGED to give a workshop on sexual affective diversity, welcoming children of compulsory third party was great, but who gave the workshop told me that it had offered to all schools for several years, and only we had called in three. As you can see a long way to go, but if we walk nostro we stay where we are.
Anubis.
