* Try to support the student lesbian or gay student who is living the process of recognizing their differences. Think you may feel stressed and this can affect their academic performance. Offer your support and show appreciation and respect. Discover that gay or lesbian is often accompanied by a feeling of loss and isolation in students.
• Do not assume that the student is going through a phase or that it is a choice.
conveniently • Learn to lead the young to know other professionals, counselors, psychologists, social workers and others.
• Respect confidentiality and requests authorization from the students before sharing with others the information you have provided. Do not communicate information about a random student to other staff members. Students choose to trust you, not others.
• Talk with your student about the risks of an eventual coming out. Be realistic and do not encourage your students to be openly without knowing their self-esteem and the level of respect and tolerance in society around him.
• GLBT Ask your students about their fears and their hopes for the future. Learn to talk about the social situation of homosexuals and their problems.
• Be prepared an information pack on GLBT reality and an updated list of resources available in your city. Call the phone numbers you're going to give your students to ensure they remain relevant and provide a serious service. Plantéales questions a student may pose. Also visit the places they refer to in order to tell them what to expect from these sites, who are going to find there, how will the location, directions, opening hours ... etc.
